Wildfire Mitigation/Fire Resilient Landscaping

The Capital Area Chapter of the Texas Master Naturalists are partnering with the City of Austin Fire Department Wildfire Division on promoting fire resilient landscaping and wildfire mitigation.

Things You Can Do To Protect Your Home

  • Declutter your gutters. Embers can hide in leaves, branches and debris.
  • Install 1/8 inch noncombustible, corrosion-resistant metal mesh over
windows, vents, weepholes, roofs, bird stops, eaves/awnings, and
gutter guards and across decks, patios and subfloor spaces to keep
    embers out.
  • Build with fire-resistant materials and use nonflammable landscape
materials as a primary method of protecting a structure from fire.
