If you are interested in making a difference, we invite you to consider the training, which is offered each Spring. Volunteers are required to complete the Spring training course and forty (40) hours of volunteer service and eight (8) advanced training hours each year. Many volunteer and advanced training opportunities make it easy to choose an area of study and service that reflects one’s expertise and interests. To retain your certification, completion of 40 hours of approved volunteer service and 8 hours advanced training is required annually.
Registration fees, which cover the cost of the Master Naturalist Handbook, handouts given during the class, park entrance fees and space rental, a graduation luncheon, and certification materials (certificates, identification cards, and name badges) are $125 and payable at the time of registration.
Applications will exceed the number of applicants that can be accommodated. Attendance is strictly limited to 30 students. Applications will be reviewed by the Student Curriculum Committee and Executive Board to determine availability for volunteer service and coursework, as well as commitment to stewardship of our natural resources. Upon approval, registration will be given on a first come, first serve basis.
The Capital Area Master Naturalists’ Class of 2012 has now been filled. Applications for 2013 will be available in August 2012.
If this is inconvenient for you, you may wish to check for class availability with other Master Naturalist chapters in the region, or investigate other programs such as Go Native U at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.
To Transfer in From Another Chapter
The former chapter should write a letter at the members request to Capital Area indicating that the member is in good standing and has completed x number of hours of service and y number of hours of advanced training. These numbers are credited to work achieved in the former chapter and subsequent work and service hours recorded by Capital Area. The cumulative hours for the year would be the basis for re-certification of the member and logged to the member for service milestone hours
