Detailed Class Logistics

Information for each class with details that students should know ahead of time. Please include all materials for preparing including readings, location details, lunch options, weather/clothing and brief summary of speakers.

Please list your names if you’d like them to be displayed on the private class pages

We need to know if Class Coordinators are interested in including this in their agendas to tell trainees ahead of time. This would allow them to bring an object or prepare for the interpretation exercise to keep those skills fresh.
  • We ask that the first two classes send their completed agendas by Orientation! Everyone else, it would be GREAT if you also included your agendas, but please send them by 12/15 at the latest before all the winter holidays begin.
  • Location Details

  • Provide name of class location
  • Provide Google Map link for venue location
  • Provide the venue website or link to affiliated owners
  • If your venue is particularly hard-to-find, please provide the latitude and longitude coordinates for the location. You can use Google Maps to find lat/long by clicking on a location.
  • Provide a short description of the classroom location and brief parking information. Details such as building number, parking lot location, or door entry would be helpful.
  • Preparing Trainees for the Day

  • Let trainees know if they should bring their lunch or if an option is available to purchase a lunch.
  • Let trainees know how much time they will be spending outdoors and how to best prepare. Include potential recommendations such as sturdy shoes, long pants, long-sleeved shirt, warm clothing, sandals, bug repellent, a hat, a portable chair if there’s a lot of standing, whether they may want to bring a change of clothes or any other details that may be useful. Please check with the venue to determine what (if any) ADA accommodations can be made. For example, if there is a tour/hike, would it be possible to have a golf cart? This is NOT a deal breaker, but we want to be aware that each class will likely have 1-2 people who could have a problem.
  • Add a new row
Provide a list of items students may want to bring with them to class such as a hand lens (loupe), a camera, field guides, binoculars or a show and tell sample (i.e., rocks, fossils, plants, photo, etc.)
  • Add a new row
List chapters/”units” within the curriculum that trainees should read ahead of time to prepare. Unit topics can be found here: http://txmn.org/about/curriculum/
  • Provide any additional reading materials beyond the curriculum that might be useful for trainees to read ahead of time such as news articles, scientific papers, class handouts, etc.
