Sometimes it’s fun to get out and explore with other naturalists. CAMN members periodically gather to explore a Natural area together.
Rancho Pensado: May 2019 An intrepid crew ventured all the way to CAMN member Harry’s place on the Rio Grande west of Marfa for a four day adventure. Highlights included incredible vistas, micro-climates with interesting plants, ruins of a garrison dating to the Pancho Villa and Mexican Revolution, and a dip in the Hot Springs. Pitch black nights made for incredible star gazing.
Twist Flower Ranch: Botany, archeology, and dark skys.
Herping St. Edward’s District Park: Night time sloshing in the creek and on the banks searching for snakes, frogs, toads, and other critters of the night.
Bracken Cave: Bat emergence (While the bats fly out to eat, they are in turn food for skunks, snakes, and birds of prey.)
Chaetura Canyon: Combined Advanced Training and Volunteer Service at the Chimney Swift Preserve. This is one of our regular activities.
Bamberger Ranch: Day long tour of the ranch. Interesting how his views and thoughts on cedar have changed over the years.
Geology Tour of the Llano Uplift: A day long exploration of the unique geology of the oldest rock in Texas.
