2019 Application (Test Form. Do not use) 2019 Application Step 1 of 4 25% Dear Prospective Texas Master Naturalist: Thank you for your interest in the Capital Area Master Naturalist (CAMN) program. CAMN is a chapter of the Texas Master Naturalist program, a statewide organization sponsored jointly by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. The primary goal of this program is to develop a corps of knowledgeable volunteers to increase the public’s awareness, understanding, and appreciation of our natural resources, and to promote the principles of responsible, sustainable development through education and encouraging citizen participation, and to directly participate in stewardship and preservation of our natural resources.Classroom and field training will be provided by experts who will cover a wide selection of topics in Central Texas natural history. Attendance at all scheduled classes is required, although a missed class may be made up.In exchange for this training, Master Naturalists are expected to complete a minimum of 40 hours of volunteer service and 8 hours advanced training in approved Master Naturalist projects and programs in their communities by the end of the calendar year 2019 and in each subsequent year. Only those completing all classes and the 40/8 hours will be awarded the Master Naturalist certification. Volunteer work is expected to take place in the geographic area that CAMN serves (Travis county and all directly adjoined counties). To retain certification, CAMN volunteers must complete 40 hours of approved volunteer service and 8 hours advanced training annually. As you strive to meet the yearly commitments, you will have the opportunity to work with various experts and other volunteers on a variety of projects to benefit our community and promote stewardship of our natural resources. Your volunteer efforts will benefit your community directly. Additionally, your service time (valued at $24.00/hour) is used as in-kind match for a federal grant TPWD receives which supports the TMN program and other conservation and stewardship efforts in Texas. The next CAMN training session will begin in late fall, 2018 and continue on ten selected Saturdays, meeting at various sites from about 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., through April, 2019. The final schedule of exact class days and times will be shared with those who have been selected. Below you can see the proposed schedule. However, please be aware that these are tentative dates and subject to change. There will also be a required half-day Saturday orientation session in early November, 2018 (exact details will be emailed to those selected). Volunteer opportunities will be available during the course to allow students to complete a portion of the first year’s required 40 hours of volunteer service prior to completion of the training. Registration fees of $175, which must be brought to orientation, cover the cost of handouts, materials, park entrance fees, space rental, security checks, and the graduation luncheon.Proposed 2019 training class schedule (class dates subject to change): Date CAMN Class 11/3/2018 Orientation 11/10/2018 Interpretation, Urban Habitat, Observation 12/1/2018 Mammalogy, Taxonomy 12/15/2018 Texacology, Weather 1/12/2019 Geology, Soils 1/26/2019 Archaeology 2/9/2019 Hydrology, Aquatic Ecology, Fish 3/2/2019 Birds, Spiders 3/30/2019 Insects, Herps 4/13/2019 Botany 4/27/2019 Restoration, Rehab, Fire, and Graduation Will you be able to attend all of these classes?*YesNoIf no - please explain whyAttendance is limited to 32 participants in order to provide a quality experience for each student.
